Charged with “environmental stewardship for a prosperous New Zealand”, the Ministry for the Environment (“The Ministry”) is the Government’s principal adviser on the environment within the country and on international matters that affect the environment. While not involved in day-to-day environmental management, the Ministry focuses on providing environmental management systems, national direction, guidance and training on best practice, and information about the health of the environment.
